Alright I hope that I have chosen the right forum for this, it seems like I have. If not please tell me and I will move this to a different location.

My specs are as follows:
AMD FX-4100 3.6ghz
Asrock 970 Extreme 3
8 Gigs G.Skill Ripjaws series ram (10800)
Sapphire Radeon 6870 1gig gddr5
Windows 8 64bit

What I am asking for is some information as to why my performance levels aren't as great as I expected them to be, I upgraded my video card to the 6870 from a 4670, and to be quite honest I experienced a decent performance increase but it seems as though it has dropped almost to 4670 levels. Occasionally I will have to resort to lowering settings down to the low render just to be able to be effective in some of the larger pvp battles.

I guess what my question is, am I being bottlenecked somewhere? is my cpu holding performance back or is it gpu? could it be the games engine holding performance levels at a low point?

I also play the secret world and manage to maintain around 45-60fps with the occasional drop to the 30's. So I am completely lost as to what my issues could be.

Any advice would be incredibly appreciated.

P.S. All drivers are up to date.

By PVP, I guess your playing WOW.

Sorry to say it, the FX line isn't what it used to be. You have the equvilent of an i3 processor. If there is a bottleneck, its the CPU. The 970 chipset can be tricky with drivers. Might want to double check there as well.

Guessing from his name. "Riftnerd" Im assuming hes playing Rift. But it's basically the same concept as WoW.

Rift and WoW are heavily CPU bound. I would agree with Groundrat in saying that the cpu is whats holding you back.

No the game in question is RIFT. I am pretty sure if I was playing WoW this system would eat it alive.

Yes, if you want to rid yourself of a bottleneck then the cpu needs to change.

Take a look at the hierarchy charts at the end of these articles:

gpu is ok, roughly equivalent to a GTX 650ti.

Your cpu ranks lower than my secretary's office machine...
Might as well be a Core2 Duo.

So Newf, since my cpu ranks so low, would you recommend me slap one of these into my system to take it from secretarty to ceo?

I would upgrade your BIOS to the current version 1.70 and then put in either an FX8350 or an 8320.

As long as you are at the Asrock website, update your board drivers as well.
It would cost more to change over to an Intel system that games better.
