Sources seem to indicate that the standard model of the 7870 is superior to the standard GTX 660 but I'm having a harder time finding good models for the superclocked vs the standard 7870.
Will overclocking a 7870 put it out on top or does the superclocked 660 do a bit better under most circumstances?

Forgive my excessive power supply, I was paranoid about getting something under par and I got it for about 100$.

PSU: XFX 850w XXX Edition Semi-Modular Power Supply
Sound card(idk): ASUS PCI-Express x1 7.1 Channel Sound Card XONAR_DX
Mobo: ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Ram: G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600MHz 240-Pin PC3-12800 Desktop Memory F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
PSU: AMD FX-8150
Resolution: 1920 x 1080

For cooling
Tower: Rosewill ATX mid tower Black hawk
Aftermarket cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

I'm interested in playing things like Civ 5, Borderlands 2, The Witcher 2, League of Legends(lol), Skyrim and RTses/rpgs generally.

Best solution

The 7870 is the clear winner. A 7870 trades blows (And often beats) with a 660 Ti. In addition, the 7000 series overclocks like no other. I have gotten a 25% boost with my 7970. Seriously any 7870 OC'd will beat any 660 OC'd in almost all games. Get the cheapest 7870 you can find that has good user reviews. I recommend Sapphire personally.
