Strange sounds coming from my computers internal speaker

I have an IBM ThinkCentre, P4. There is a strange sound coming from the internal speaker. Sounds like a squirrel is trapped in side of it. It stopped when the power supply fan stopped spinning. But when I replaced the power supply the sound came back. It only stops when the pc is in sleep mode. Does anyone know where the sound is coming from?

From your post I would suggest it could be coming from the hard drive, as in sleep mode the hard drive spins down. I would test it with DOS-based diagnostic software from the drive manufacturer (DOS-based because you shouldn't test the OS drive while the OS is running).
