Old monitor and new graphics card

I realize this is probably a really dumb question but I'm new to all this so go easy on me lol. I'm building my first pc and unfortunately my new monitor won't be in until after Christmas but i have everything else to build it already in. I do have an old monitor laying around and I'm wondering if i can use this monitor just to power the pc on to test and make sure everything is working and hooked up properly. The graphics card is a Radeon 7850. The monitor is an old dell, i think the resolution it's set to right now is 1152x864. As long as it has a vga or dvi port am i ok or is there another way to go about testing the pc? Again, I'm sure it's a stupid question but I'm pretty beginner in most of this :/

I have an old (7 years) e-machines monitor(vga) that i used on my 6870 this past summer for a brief time till my monitor came in for my first build. It shouldn't be a problem.
