1440x900 resolution you will get 28 ~ 30 FPS at ultra settings with 8x MSAA, so if your are at that reso or higher, you will need to lower the graphics quality and mostly u will set the AA to 2x MSAA or even set it to off,,,,
I would assume med-high with playable frame rates at 1680 or lower. Buy it and try it. I cant tell the exact fps since I don't have the same exact system but I can say that it will not be on low settings unless 1080p
It is surprisingly playable, I have the textures and the enviroment and the vegetation set on high, the other options are set to low.
I play it on a 1440x900 resolution, and I have 40 frames per second at almost every moment, even during explosions, only drops when there are many ai's around me.
Well This is the hardware I have and I am bottlenecked by the CPU. Below are my specs and observations.
ABIT- IP35 PRO Mobo.
Sapphire 7870 OC 2GB 1050 core/ 1250 memory. On PCI-E 1.0a slot
4GB DDR2 RAM at 920 MHz
E8400 OC to 4.12GHZ
RES: 1680 X 1050 60Hz. Ultra settings. DX9 and DX11 - I ran around in the forest and the village continuously.
CPU core 1 : 100% all the time. Core 2: 80% all the time.
22 FPS - GPU Usage 50%
35 FPS - GPU Usage 80% The more I moved around the more the frames dropped, so did the GPU usage showing how much CPU bottle necked I was. If I stayed in one place and stared the sky, then it went to 100% GPU and frames increased.
The more I moved around in the village where there were more NPCs, the more the frames dropped so did the GPU Usage.
I tried enabling the MSAA just to see the GPU % go up. It did go up to 95% but the frames dropped indicating I was reaching the limitation of the GPU as well.
So having a high end multicore CPU and disabling the MSAA should get you around a good 50+FPS.
I Played Max Payne 3, Crysis and Crysis 2 all at ultra settings and noted that the GPU usage was always high and none of the CPU cores reached 100% where as both the cores stayed at 80 to 85%. And the frame rate I get is consitant with the internet benchmark and more sometimes indicating PCI-E slot is not a bottle neck. I get a GPU score of 7660 on 3D Mark 11 Basic.
Hope this is helpful to some of the Dual core users looking to play FC 3.
Another wonderful observation! The 7870 I had recieved was a wrong version so I sent it back and put the 8800GT OC DX9 512MB card back and started the game. Honestly not bad at all. What I saw was at medium to high quality the game is actually playable at 30+ frames per second. The CPU usage also reduced by core 1 70% and core 2 40%.
The game still looked surprisingly wonderful(probably because of the lighting), but definitely not as realistic as the DX11 part. Hmm weird
At ultra quality, the FPS stayed around 17 to 19 - Not playable. At high 22 to 26 - OK playable, and at medium 26 to 32 - quite decent. However the NPC looked like crap. Crysis 1 maintained the NPC so good even on DX9!
