Dual Monitors - Different Resolutions

Hey gang,

I'm planning to buy a new monitor at Christmas and I was wondering how it would work if both monitors are different resolutions. I am looking to buy a 1920x1080 monitor but my current one has a maximum resolution of 1680x1050, so I imagine I wouldn't be able to use them both at the same time for gaming as an example but could I use them both at the same time to game on one and have windows running on the other. Lastly do I need anything special for this or is it simply individual cables from my GPU into both monitors?

I figure i may aswell ask here instead of creating a new thread, does this PSU seem like it'll hold up to a system like this:

MOBO: Biostar GF8100M2+ SE
CPU: AMD 630 x4 @2.8GHz
RAM: 2x2GB DDR2
GPU: MSI 7850 2GB
HDD 1: 1TB 7200RPM
HDD 2: 500GB 7200RPM
DvD Drive
PSU:Corsair VX550
Monitor 1: 22" 1680x1050
Monitor 2: 24" 1920x1080

No plans for overclocking the card, if that should effect the PSU resources.
