Hey all,
I've been doing some research w/respect to the analog signal of laserdisc,
and whether or not to use the S-Video out or the regular composite out. The
consensus seems to be that one should use the connection which allows the
best comb filter to do its job before the signal is put on screen. Thus, if
the player has a better comb filter, send the signal S-video... but if your
TV's comb filter is better, use regular composite.
I have a Pioneer Elite CLD-52. I know for a fact its comb filter isn't the
greatest. And I'm currently in the market for a new TV. I'm leaning
towards getting a good ol' CRT, widescreen, with plenty of picture quality
functions and the best comb filter on the market. Something under $1500
would be nice.
So the question remains: Which widescreen TV out there has the absolute
BEST comb filter ever? Or in lieu of that, which TV just does the best job
of presenting the analog laserdisc signal? I remember reading somewhere
that there was this Panasonic TV that had a killer comb filter... second to
none at the time that TV came out.
If anyone has any experience or knowledge to share about which TV to
consider, let me know; I'd be grateful.
