I recently discovered, to my chagrin, that a new HD that I had purchased for my MSI K7 Turbo LE was ATA33 went it comes up on the post screen. About what time frame did UDMA 66 come on the market? I bought the new HD as a bare bones unit and only found out it's slower transfer rate a few days ago. My MB is capable of UDMA 66 & 100. IS the higher rate any benefit?

How do you know it's ATA33? If it's a new hard drive, it should be ATA100 (or even ATA133). Moving from ATA33 to ATA66/100 will make a difference, but ATA66 to ATA100 won't matter much at all.

ATA66 came into the market quite a long time ago... we're now up to ATA133.

Unless you got it second-hands or it was a "bargain" type deal, I doubt it'd be ATA33.

"And no, the bus rating doesn't make a significant difference for your hard drive."

It makes a little. Figure on 35,000k/s, it'll creep up to 35,500k/s.

Between ATA33 and ATA66/100 it does. I was assuming he had ATA66/100. I'll edit my post, since that was very unclear.

OOPS! BIG TYPO!

Instead of "ATA66 came into the market quite a long time ago... we're not up to ATA133", it should read:

"ATA66 came into the market quite a long time ago... we're NOW up to ATA133."

The former sentence doesn't make sense anyway.

That's what I figured you meant to write.
