MSI Radeon HD 6970 massively overheating

Hi there,

ive got a problem with my MSI Radeon HD 6970, it heats up to 100c as soon as i begin to run anything intensive for instance planetside 2. it was working fine up until a day ago, before that i would run said game on high graphics and only get up to about 80c.

i tried reducing the clock settings in CCC but it dosent help that much. Do any of you fine Gentlemen and/or ladies have any idea what could be causing this?

system specs are:

windows 7 ultimate
i7 2600k
gigabyte z77-dh3
8gb ram
Radeon HD 6970

thanks for your time.

  1. If the card is still under warranty then Rma it back. to have it checked out, it would be the best option in your case. It is a new card so any problems or should be fixed by an Rma of the card.
  2. I would take off the cards cover and clean out all the dust from the heat sink. I just did this to my Nvidia 9800gt and the temps went down 20c at load. Your card probably just needs a good cleaning.

    Cheers :)
