Display Freezes but the computer is still running?

November 30, 2012 5:11:12 PM

Hey everyone!

I just assembled a new computer (which has some problems for some reason) with the following parts:

Western Digital WD Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB Ram
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge
CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 600W
SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100358VXL Radeon HD 7770
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77

Now, I've installed windows 7, updated all the drivers, and am using it as usual when all of a sudden my display just freezes. For example, I was watching a youtube video and all of a sudden the screen became into a greyish color (youtube themeish) and I could not see anything else. However in the background the youtube video was still playing as normal as no buzzing or corrupting sounds could be heard. Another time, I was using itunes 11, and the screen went whit all of a sudden with the songs still playing. Now to simply get rid of this, I just restart the computer and it only happens like once in a day (so far).

What exactly is going on? (Note: I am using an hdmi cable to connect from my graphics card to my monitor's hdmi port)

Another question is, when I plug the hdmi into my motherboard's hdmi port, the computer also shows no video? (All drivers and updates are installed)
