Hi all,

I have currently a gigabyte motherboard GA-M68MT-S2 http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3...

And a standard 450w power supply which was cheap, cannot remember what brand.

i am thinking about getting a MSI AMD Radeon 7850 HD 1GB, I upgrading from a MSI AMD Radeon 6670 HD 2GB
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-msi-radeon-hd-7850-o...

I was wondering do i need a new power supply to run this graphics card?
if so i was looking at XFX Pro Series Core Edition P1-550S-UKB9 550W Power Supply http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-xfx-pro-series-core...

and will this card and motherboard work together and will this power supply work with the motherboard?

Sorry for all of these questions but i just want to be sure before i buy.

Thanks

Not knowing anything about the old "standard" PSU you have other than its wattage rating, I'd say get the new XFX one. That card draws almost 11A on the +12V rail when maxed out (130W). Wattage ratings alone can be foolers. But the card should be fine with that board.

Thanks for the help, will the XFX power supply work ok with my motherboard?

Sorry just checking.

Cheers

Yes, the XFX will work fine. It is a std ATX power supply and has the necessary connectors for your board, gfx card, etc. if that is what you are concerned with. If your PC's case is a std ATX or mATX case, it will fit fine. If you have a low profile or slimline case, it won't fit.

My case is a midi tower chassis that accommodates micro-ATX and ATX motherboards so thats fine i think.
