GPU Showing as Pcie 2.0 slot when its in a Pcie 3.0 slot in Catalyst

So i checked in the bios and it shows that my 7970 is hooked into a pcie. 3.0 slot. Also next to that slot on the board, it says pcie 3.0, so im fairly certain its plugged into a 3.0 slot. But i was looking through Catalyst Control Ceneter, clicked on the information tab, and then clicked hardware and saw this

Graphics Bus Capability PCI Express 2.0
Maximum Bus Setting PCI Express 2.0 x4

Is this normal? If not, what could be the problem?

Any help is appreciated.

  1. What Processor do you have? You need a Ivy bridge CPU to enable PCI Express 3.0
  2. Hello!
It's completely normal, you see, when the card is idle it will use the minimum settings. And don't worry when you play games it will go to 16x 3.0 (if it is in fact 3.0)
  3. Yep its a bus standard, 3.0 is backwards to 2.0, if the card is 2.0 it will still work.
and as said if the card is 3.0 then it will kick in as soon as the card is fully up and running.
