Ok. Heres the prob - we think a computer of a pals has a worm in its bios?? as he's replaced his hard drive and the worm came back as soon as he reloaded his XP.
Sooooo
I wanna try flashing his Bios (hey its not mine why not practice) but i need someone to give me some step by step instructions as I haven't tried this one before. Now I'm not completely thick so I'll fathom it out just not sure how the whole thing works.
First, I seriously doubt those things really exist. Unless someone can provide me a link, I'm fairly certain those BIOS-residing virusses are just an urban legend. If they do exist, hats off to the viruswriter, because that has got to be *very* tricky to program.
Secondly, I really hope you didnt make him replace his harddisk because the other one was infected... please please tell me.
Finally, though I doubt its necessary, flashing is piece of cake, just download the software from the MB vendor, download the *correct* BIOS file, follow directions on screen. Not sure how much easier it could be. Just don't turn off the computer while you are flashing.

I lost the password for my old account - messy story anyway. This is third hand info on the mobo and hdd. His first hdd was infected so he replaced it and that got infected too. So he assumes it's on his bios - is this not the case? Anyway I'm gonna flash his bios for fun. Where else could the virus reside?
Anywayz nice to see you guys and thanks for the comments.

Well, it's hardly my fault that everyone chose that morning to throw themselves off buildings! Made the papers, you know. "Lemming Sunday," they called it.
well, maybe your friend is an idiot or maybe one of his programs is infected... Just because he reforatted and reinstalled doesn't mean it is within Windows... What else did he load on the PC?
