I am finally looking to buy a good digital camera which I think are getting
better and finally with good resolution, I am looking at the new Canon rebel
Xt vs Nikon D50. I want an slr because I can buy different lenses which
would really enhance my range of pictures.

You think you'd like our opinion.... But you don't. :-)
As Nikon vs Canon is much like asking vi or emacs, or Windows vs Mac,
or Catholic vs Protestant, or whatever religious debate you wanna
have, it ends up being a pissing match where there's more heat than
light until ultimately you discover that both cameras are very
capable, and do lots of things really well, and it boils down to what
features/attribute you personally weigh as being more important than
another.
In the end, I'd say get to a store and physically pick up both, and I
suspect your hand will tell you which you really want more. Many feel
the Xt is just too darned small, for instance.

Thanks for the advice and links, I have seen all the comparison and I find
the Canon much whiter and better focus, resolution and clarity when doing
close up..which I love to do in nature, I will take your advice and probably
find a store and rent each one if I can (d50 and rebel xt) and try it to get
the feel. It does come down to personal preference, but I also like to read
your ideas and comparison.

Some people say it doesn't matter, some people say it is a matter of
personal choice, and some people can even bring out charts, graphs,
fitted curves, mathematical models and peer reviewed publications to
back up their position.
However, I am here to say unto you that if you choose Canon you will
enter a heaven of unimaginable joy and happiness, and life everafter,
and that should you elect to move to the Dark Side (aka Nikon), you
_will_ BURN IN THE TERRIBLE FIRES OF HELL.
FOREVER.

You're welcome. My standard consulting fee in these matters is $150
US, plus expenses (which I have chosen to waive in your case). Please
forward your billing address.

Both are okay. In Korea the Rebel XT is 350D. But 350D is more like the
Nikon D70 not D50. D50 is more like the Canon 300D but I think the D50
is much better. I search online for information comparing digital SLRs
and find digitalslrinfo.com which advised to buy D50 not 300D, unless I
already have Canon lenses, so I am buy D50.
My opinion: Nikon D50 is the best least expensive digital SLR camera. I
do not like the SD type of memory though.

Thanks Jook. And I'd say that even if you weren't my house guest, using
my wireless connection!
Yes, I asked him to post about his choice of the D50, just to prove that
the ACZs are full of it!

Be it good or bad, the Nikon will accept almost every lens they've ever made
giving you a very wide selection to choose from. Not all are autofocus.
Not all will work with the metering. And some pre AI lenses will need to be
modified. But that makes for a lot of lenses to choose from. I use some
older lenses with my D70 and don't feel like I'm missing all that much.
As far as the Nikon vs. the Canon debate, I'm not going to get into a
pissing match with the Canon people here.
