APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Next two weeks

BUDGET RANGE: $100-160 (AUD)

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming (most demanding game will be The Witcher 2 for now)

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY:
ATI Radeon HD 3850 256 MB (yeah, I know.)
Generic 550W PSU (Max load for 3.3V = 25A, 5V = 20A, 12V = 30A, -12V = 0.5A, 5VSB - 2.5A)

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.0 GHZ)
Mobo - the system is a Lenovo M57 with stuff added in.
Memory - 4 GB DDR2 667 MHz

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Coming from Australia, there aren't a lot of big online stores like Newegg, and it's usually the smaller shops that give better prices. I've been referring to comparison sites like StaticICE for prices.

PARTS PREFERENCES: None.

OVERCLOCKING: Yes

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1440x900 - possibly 1920x1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
- The temperature on the current graphics card (HD 3850 256 MB) isn't great. It idles around 53°C and can reach 85°C under load. (The CPU temperature peaks around 72°C under load, and idles around 46°C.)
- I'm open to upgrading the PSU, although it seems to power the current graphics card fine (I haven't had any issues with freezes, shutdowns or not being able to boot).
- I'll probably be building a new mid-range system in the next year, retaining the new graphics card.

Currently I'm considering the HD 6870 and HD 7770 - I'm open to an Nvidia card, but their budget offerings don't seem to be as good (in terms of price-performance) as AMD's. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Why not an AMD HD 7850 1 GB (if you can find a 2 Gb it would be better)

Its good if you get a 7850 as suggested above. But you have a pretty old computer and it may bottleneck, Like you've got a DDR2 Ram.

So I may suggest you to get a 7770 Ghz edition (Or any cheap one) with a DDR 3 Ram and say you to stick with 1440x1024 resolution.

Wow, that card looks like a beast in a cloak!!
But your PSU may cause a problem.
