Reusing an old hard drive in new build help!

So, I've been posting a lot of questions lately getting ready to build my first PC and I have one final question. I was going to use my old 300gb hard drive from my old Dell XPS 400 in my new build to save cash, I understand that the version of windows installed on this hard drive is linked to the motherboard since it came from Dell, but I was wondering if I put the hard in the new build and then put in the Windows 8 Pro upgrade in would recognize it allow it to do the upgrade but link it to the new motherboard in my new build. Any help would be great.

When you're ready to install the operating system you load the Windows 8 disc (or if you're using Flash connect the USB device) and then you reformat the drive through the Windows OS.

Yep, as long as you're re-installing your OS you should be golden.
