What cord for my monitor to display my screen...?

Just got my custom built computer from the shop (I ordered all the parts), but I have one problem. It won't display on my monitor. I tried using a vga cable but it didn't display. What cord do I need?

More about what cord monitor display screen
  1. It has a DVI and a HDMI port.

You can get DVI to VGA adaptors if your monitor only has a VGA port.
  2. so expensive D:...i wanna buy from amazon
  3. Are you plugging into the plugs on the video card or the motherboard?

Stupid question but it's one many people make.

The videocard should have come with a DVI-VGA adapter to plug into the video card, then a VGA cord.

I didn't see any plugs that came with the video card or even a vga cord.

  6. uh ok ill try that i guess...wondering though, why do I need that cord? Why can't this all connect with a regular hdmi cable or a vga cable?
  7. I stole the vga from my moms computer so I'm guessing I need a vga cord as well?
  8. u dont need a cord. u can use ur vga cord. and plug it into that adapter.
