Upgrading Hp Compaq 8100 Elite sff

so, I am really messed up around here, i want to put my motherboard from this computer into a different case, This case comes with a PSU and supports ATX and Micro ATX motherboards, but, the motherboard doesn't have that metal plate, its physically part of the case, would i have to cut this out? or, would it work without it?

(If you ask why am i getting a new case and things, im wanting to put a MSI geforce Gt 640 1gb in it, But it wont fit in the current case...)

Please help, I dont need my brain going into fail safe mode....

Doesnt it protect it from ESD?

are you talking about metalplate/backpanel

it has nothing to do with ESD

or something else?
