Laptop Shut Off Randomly

My friends laptop shut off out of no where today. When he tries to turn it back on. When he tries to turn it back on. It acts like it wants to but turns out after 2 seconds. He said it makes no beeps. He just installed a new CPU about 2 weeks ago. Any ideas what it could be?

did he reapply new thermal compound and tighten the heatsink properly?

If the laptop turns on after sitting for awhile, its most likely overheating.

Download and use real temp to monitor cpu temperature if next time a successful boot. http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

Try not to do anything cpu intensive before using real temp as it will shutdown again if it is heat related and wont able to properly diagnose in time.
