So I'm trying to build a PC that will eventually handle games and I'm wondering if the Core i5 3570K is the best gaming for under $200?

Here's what I'm looking at:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/388577/Core_i5_3570K...

Thanks a bunch.

i5-3570k is the best gaming CPU around at any budget, go for it.

The FX-8350 is more like 20-30% behind according to some benchmarks I just looked at. That makes sense as well since it isn't a massive upgrade to the old Bulldozer FX-8 and that barely beat a Pentium G620 in games.

yeah i completely agree(just got my 3570k installed :p  and the difference is astronomical) but he said SUB 200 and with the extra 30(or more depending on how many cores you want) you could get a better GPU/RAM/SSD

It is sub-$200 at Microcenter - $170 in fact. Picking mine up after my birthday this year :)

It's both. But you can only get the processors in store for that price. In a way, MC is taking a loss-leader very akin to Black Friday sales. They want foot traffic. Their processors and motherboards are below cost for a reason and they hope you overspend on their overpriced GPUs.

It's a brand new processor and gives them a competitve advantage in some ways.

The best sub $200 gaming processor is the highest Ghz i5 you can find for under $200. Kind of varies with sales, but it doesn't really matter which i5.

Based on today's prices, i5-3470 (3.2Ghz) at Amazon would be the best under $200.

I assumed when linkgx1 linked MC, there was one nearby.

Also - BASTARDS! When did they jack up the price? Well, at least the 2500K is still at $150. Unlocked, and only about 5% less performance than the 3570K.
