    Hi Katherine,

It needs to install on the same drive (or partition) that Windows
is installed to. You should have enough room for it there, if not
move something else to the other drive.

DirectX isn't a program, it become part of the operating system.
Let me know if you have any questions. :-)

Thank you for the quick response.

I had to install xp to the d-drive cuz I have a faulty upgrade on drive
C:... When I try to install my games to drive D... where I start XP from I
get an error msg that I dont have direct x installed... when I install direct
x it still gives me the same error msg, so it seems like its going to the
    wrong drive.

    Any idea whats up?

Kathrine, instead of attempting to work around a bad situation on the C:
drive by installing to a different partition, I would strongly suggest you
fix or repair that problem instead of trying to force something here.

If DirectX is insisting on installing to the C: drive, apparently that drive
is being seen by the install program, which means all else you've got on the
D: partition is doing so too. And it is sure folly to have two active
    partitions viewable to each other.

I'd suggest you post the issue you've had in the windowsxp.general
    newsgroup, and get that resolved.

Thanks, yes I have already posted a question about that in another newsgroup,
it just seems like its gonna take much longer to get an answer to that so in
the meantime I am trying to make this thing work.

    Thanks = )

Well, you really should get the original partition squared away. If you're
in a situation where two system partitions are seeing each other, you may
have a mixed Registry and the system doesn't know what to do.

    Hello.

    Could you post a dxdiag?

    Start
    > Run
-> Type dxdiag and press enter
--> A new window should pop up which lists information on DirectX if you
click Save All Information and then either paste it into a reply or attach
    it.

That'll help work out what's going on.

ok yes I am working on trying to find a solution here. I really dont want to
lose my old partition the way it was. Any ideas on how to do that? Removing
windows on this partition didn't work at all, but then again maybe it was
some solution I didn't know about.
