Hi I am receiving my Dad's old computer and i need to upgrade it, it is hella slow. I am on an 150 dollar budget and here is what it is.
Mobo: MSI-G41M-P26 http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P26.html#/?div=Overview
CPU: Pentium 4 http://ark.intel.com/products/27495/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-supporting-HT-Technology-2_80-GHz-512K-Cache-800-MHz-FSB
GPU: Intel(R) G41 Express chip http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/g41-express-chipset.html
Ram: 4 GB DDR3 http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/product/computing-dram/detail?productId=7229&iaId=693
HDD: 250 GB Hitachi Unspecified
Case: original HP Paviliom A1410Y Case
OS: Windows XP
So what id like is suggestions for under 150, under 200 if way better, for a mobo, cpu, gpu upgrade ram not worried about and no upgrade for case hdd or os. So please i really need help. Preferred vendors are newegg, best buy, and amazon.
Thanks,
Jerod
PS i dont need a mobo upgrade if u can find the cpu's that work with it, but i do NEED a better CPU and GPU. Thanks again

Ya that cpu is outdated, to get an upgrade you will need to change the mobo, as for the gpu, are you going to be gaming because then you would want (not need) to upgrade ram and os as well, but if you aren't then im not sure you need a dedicated gpu because the integrated ones work pretty well.

A decent AMD chip + mobo combo will cost a bit more than the one I suggested so for the same price you won't get a video card, but its your choice if you want I can try finding a decent cpu + mobo combo.

It will work perfectly fine, but im pretty sure (haven't tested it but i would bet on it) that it would also be very smooth with just the integrated graphics. Here is something to think about. The zotac graphics ARE better than the integrated ones on the pentium.
With AMD which will cost more, you won't get a graphics card, but the integrated graphics are better than the intel ones. Its kinda in between integrated intel graphics and the zotac video card. If you want i can give you a price estimate.

ok if you want simple gaming like minecraft then really all you need is a hd 7770 at max and if you cant afford that a gt 630 or 620 should be able to play minecraft but even if you play a game like dungeon defenders it will lag...

7770

gt 620

as for the CPU i have never heard of that one maybe it is time to upgrade to an i3? have you thought about getting a i3-2100 and MSI H61M-P31/W8

i3

RAM

if you go with the 620 then your total will end up as about 240 which i guess you could go with the pentium but if you want to play minecraft it is a lot more CPU and RAM intensive then it is graphics card

Good idea. You could always use amd's cpu graphics?
