I am having problems with win98 and my CD-ROM and burner.
while i am able to read and run CD's, here are my problems:
1)autorun is not working
2)neither the CD-ROM or CD-RW shows up in hardware manager
3)in "My Computer" the CD-RW is listed as a CD-ROM
4)EZCD Creator doesnt recognize CD-RW

System Specs:
800mhz AMD
Shuttle board with SIS730 chipset
Samsung CDROM
ACER CDRW
256 megs RAM

pretty basic setup with a new install of win98. would appreciate the help.

Download a program called TweakUI and install that.
If I remember correctly, it just shows up as a CDROM - nothing wrong with that.
Try Nero Burning ROM. EZCD isn't the greatest program.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

Well. Where to start?

First, have you configured the drives correctly?

Master/slave/jumpers/cables etc.

Next make sure in your BIOS that your system detects them.
If not, double check your IDE stuff in BIOS, making sure pertenent settings are enabled. Run an "autodetect" from your BIOS, and confirm the system's suggestion.

Is all that done?

the BIOS does correctly recognize the drives. I guess I will try Nero next. what bothers me most is that neither one of the drives shows up in the device manager so I dont think changing the software will help

Check your IDE drivers. If the driver for the controller your drive is connected to isn't installed properly, your CD-ROM / CD-RW drives will not show up in My Computer or the Device Manager. Also, disable DOS drivers that may be loading in config.sys or autoexec.bat. If you're working in Windows, you don't need DOS drivers, and they may also cause a problem.
