Best GPU possible

Recently my EVGA 8800 GT kicked the bucket. Since I did not register the card with them when I purchased it, I cant get a replacement through their warranty program.
I'm wondering what the best modern card I can run is on a 100-150 dollar budget. Also, do I need to worry about compatibility issues with PCIe 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc?

My system is as follows:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4
MoBo - Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Rev. 2.1
Mem - 2gig x2 GSkill PC2-6400 (400 Mhz)
PSU - Silverstone Op650w

Display is a 24" 1920x1200

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Here is a good starting point:

As for compatibility issues, you should be ok. A 3.0 PCIe card will work in 2.0. (I believe that motherboard PCIe slots are 2.0)
