Upgraging from GTX550ti $225 budget

My current system:
CPU: AMD Pheonom xII
RAM: 8gb corsair vengeance
I have an asus motherboard and i think it only supports pcie 2.0

    ur best options are gtx 660 and an hd 7870
    hd 7870 is better than the 660 so 7870 wins

    yeah pci-e 2.0 is perfectly reverse copatible with pci-3.0.
    no problem at all!!!

    Get about the same performance of the 7870 for less money, has a really good oc from factory and overclocks well.

    I think i will go with the 7870 because of the lower price. Thank you for all the feed back, I am a fairly new pc builder.
