Q:What is it that creates most of the heat in a hard disk?
I am going to build my own case out of aluminum for a "mp3/divx" computer and will not use any or few fans.
The idea I have is to mount hard disks to this aluminum case which gives it a lot of cooling area. What it will not get is much, probably no, air flow around the hard disk.
The electronics on the pcb will not get that much cooling.
Do the electronics, generally, cause much heat or is it internal heat from the disk that generates most heat?
What I am going to do, does that sound right?

(I will use some sort of low power consuming Celeron CPU on the mobo)

All inputs of building a small and quiet computer is welcome

im building the same thing! i plan on using a msi nforce board, since it has every thing i need on it. one thing i have not decided on, what kind of case to use. i cant find a desktop case that i like for this. i thought of making a case out of aluminum, but i think thats more work than i can do. what have you decided? any ideas for an lcd? are you going to control it like a computer? i took the controler from a keyboard and attatched buttons to the correct pins that corespond to the correct shortcut keys to control every thing i need.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.
