Hi gurus. I am a server dude who is studying some of the new stuff coming out. As a result I am hosting routers, servers (Windows and Redhat) and workstations in VirtualBox. It is time to build a new rig to replace my current rig, the details of which are;

Current Rig
AMD Athlon II X4 635
Gigabyte 890GPA UD3H
12gb DDR3 666mhz
Radeon HD577

This runs BFBC2 fine. I can run about 4 average sized VMs (say 2GB each) before it starts to run out of steam.

Could somebody please recommend a config as I haven't kept up with PC hardware technology like you guys have. I have no preferences except I am poor.

Approximate Purchase Date: Now
Budget: $500 USD. Hopefully enough to get improvement on existing rig?
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Virtualisation, Programming, Web, BFBC2
Preferred Website(s) for Parts:www.steg-electronics.ch
CountrySwitzerland, which is limited for competitive parts compared to US and Australia Might try to get parts from civilisation if possible.

I have no parts preference. Not interested in OCing. No interest in SLI or XFire. I have monitor and keyboard etc.

PS - What is the difference between "Homebuilt" and "New Build"?

Thanks in advance

New build is what you are doing. Homebuilt is for existing systems that are having problems. Give me a few minutes and I'll see what I can do.
