Updated drivers for sound card & display adapter, uninstalled & reinstalled
game & ran registry mechanic between each uninstall.... still get the same
behaviour. Even tried several compatability modes, to no avail.

The game initially ran fine with the drivers that were installed from the
display adapter & sound card manufactures installation CD's.

A condition I failed to mention in my original post, is that I installed
WinXP Pro as a clean full install, complete with drive format, then later,
converted the installation to NTFS. Could this be where some conversion or
compatability info got lost which enabled the game to work in XP Pro, NTFS,
since the OS has been re-installed again? The XP Pro re-install seemed to
retain all of my settings, documents & user info and even the SP-2 update.
Or, could it be that the SP-2 update parameters are missing when I
re-install CFS?

The Creative sound card update program indicated that it needed SP-2 files,
and prompted to locate. Directed to SP2cab which seemed to enable completion
of update. This SP-2 prompt didn't happen when re-installing CFS... Hmmmm...?

Hi,

Have you tried reinstalling the game after switching to NTFS?
This might help resolve those issues you've been seeing.

Hi Jimmy,

Yes, I have, re-installed CFS several times, all with the same results, and
it doesn't seem to make any difference, with different drivers.

I installed

______________________________________________________________________________

Sequence of events: from W98, dual hard drives C & D:

1. Install WinXP Pro to 60g hard drive - C: (install wizard reads current
configuration) of W9x - using 4g hard drive D: as swap. (Previously installed
games, transferred, working.)

2. Install WinXP SP-1 & updates. (Previously installed games, working.)

3. Reconfig computer, drives: C & D, install XP on to the 4g drive.
(Previously installed games, working.)
Trying to run system with drive C - 4g, as OS, and drive D - 60g as storage
and data drive.

4. Install WinXP SP-2. (Previously installed games, working.)

5. Drive C - 4g running out of space, getting full. (some of us still learn
the hard way... )

6. Move some OS files to drive D:, mess up the C: OS, windows can't find
files.

7. Re-install WinXP Pro, to same C: directory, no format, SP-2 automatically
restored in re-install. (nice...) Games now cease to function properly.
(Should have used System restore.)

8. Re-install CFS, to 60g drive D:, game works, but with garbled characters
in cockpit full screen mode display.

9. Remove & update video & sound drivers, re-install CFS, same results.

10. Remove & Install sound card drivers from mgfr Cd, same results...

And that is the state it's at now...

Thinking about computer re-config to single drive C: 60gig hard drive,
re-install XP Pro, NTFS, to existing Windows dir on this drive, re-install
CFS. ?

Hi Batteries..

As per:
Thinking about computer re-config to single drive C: 60gig hard drive,
re-install XP Pro, NTFS, to existing Windows dir on this drive, re-install
CFS. ?

Yes, definitely, especially since the problem started when moving system
files over to D:

I suggest you make a small (< 20 Gig partition - let's make it 10 Gig) since
older games have difficulty with partitions in excess of 20 Gig, and format
that partition in FAT32 just for more compatibility. I hope that works! :-)

Hey Jim,

What about dedicating the 4.1 g drive to just CFS, re-formatted in FAT32
format?

I'm eventually going to get a massive storage drive for sounds & games, but
until then...

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

Sounds like a good idea, however remember to commit to
one scheme of partitions right from the start, otherwise later
on some games may not recognize the CD/DVD drive any
longer if the D: letter has been assigned to a hard drive instead.

Thanks again Jim,
The CD drive is committed way down the list, "G" I think, I've got all kinds
of drives on this thing...
Got an old Dell server I've been messin' with, (direct cable connection),
tryin' to figure out how to make a data, programs & mp3 storage, facility...
but I need server software or something, to give it a jump start, to get it
going... not sure...
Thanks for all your help...
John
