Nvidia gt 640 black bars on screen

Hello,
i bought a new computer, with a nvidia gt 640 gpu. The display is a 23" acer full hd. I connected the new computer to the display with hdmi cable, and there is black bars on every side of the screen.
I checked the display settings, and there is no 1920x1080 option at all, only 1280x1024. what should i do?
