The fan has always squealed intermittently during high output, but recently it squeals all the time, even when not gaming. I have taken the whole fan/heatsink apart and cleaned it thoroughly, but it still squeals immediately when I re-install. I have left the case open while playing games and the fan will abruptly stop, then the signal to the monitor is lost and I power down the computer.
I thought perhaps I could just replace the entire fan/heatsink, but I can't seem to find one that lists compatibility with the nVidia 9800. Most list up to 8800 and no further.
Is replacing the fan/heatsink possible or even worth it? Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes one compatible with the 9800?
