I've just purchased a 19" Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 93 SB. It looks fine and seems to deliver a very crisp image in comparison with my previous monitor, a 17" Wyse.

However there are two feint lines that appear on the screen, one 3 inches from the top of the screen and the other 4 inches from the bottom. The lines remain constant - its not a refresh issue as i've adjusted it to a lower resolution and it remains...

The lines are only noticeable when looking at a white screen or light screen. However i'm not sure if this is a monitor fault or if it could be caused by some other reason.

Anyone got any ideas or experienced anything similar before with their monitor?

What you are seeing are the shadows of the damper wires of an aperture grill monitor. All AG tubes have those lines.

To avoid the lines you would need a shadow mask monitor.

Shadow mask monitors use a perferated metal screen to form the dots but AG monitors use vertical wires. The horizontal damper wires keep the vertical wires from vibrating and to maintain spacing.

See the link below for a better description of AG damper wires.

Thanks for the response & the link phsstpok! Cleared up my ignorance on the subject & my feeling that something untoward was occurring.

I asked my brother this morning and he said the same thing - he has these lines on his Sun workstation monitor.
