Boot Problem with new system

Hi guys.

I put my first system together today, and once everything was connected I power it on and booted it up. I got to the BIOS without problems. The HDD I have in there is from an previous computer and I intended to install win7 on it, formatting the drive. When I booted, it got to the "Windows has failed to start" page. This was unsurprising considering the the OS version on the original drive. I then sorted all my cabling out and went to a friends house who had a win7 disk. However, when I turned the machine on, it got past the POST screen then the screen is covered in white fuzzy lines, and the boot process freezes. This occurs while trying to boot off the DVD drive or the HDD. I have no idea what's wrong, considering it appeared to work the first time.

My specs are:

Sapphire 7970 OC 3GB
Corsair TX650 PSU
ASROCK Z77 Extreme 4 MOBO
Samsung 500GB HDD
Generic (Functional) DVD writer.
8GB (2x4) G-skill Ripjaw

Any help would be fantastic.

have you gone to BIOS and set the DVD drive as first boot device ?

and if necessary disabled all other drives as places to boot from

you do know you are not allowed to use his win 7 disk too , right?

His disk, my serial key. I have no data allowance at the moment.

The problem completed stopped when I used DVI rather than HDMI, odd.

Thanks for the reply though.
