GeForce 9800GT and Direct X 11 for World of Warcraft

Last response: in Graphics & Displays

I have recently downloaded Windows 8 Pro (64) bit.

World of Warcraft crashes if I use Direct X 11, so I was advised to use Direct X 9, as my Nvidia GeForce 9800GT graphics card seems to have problems.

Was wondering if there is any way to fix this without buying new video card? I have up to date driver, though not the beta one.

the 9800GT is not a DX11 card. you are limited to DX10 or DX9
to change that you will need to purchase a new card.

You shouldn't have to get a new card - it will run just fine in DX9 mode.

The problem comes from having no driver support for that game in windows 8 yet, I believe. (Though if you do decide to sell that, if it's an XFX card, I'll take it off your hands.)

Yes, WOW is running fine now in DX9, thanks.

It's just that running it with DX11 the graphics were great, so I thought I would ask about it. I checked out the new beta driver but there was nothing about WOW in the list of games it supported. I'll keep hoping that there will be a driver update which will support my GeForce 9800GT.

Not sure if my card is XFX though. Manufacturer is Nvidia.

there isnt any feasible way that your card will work in DX11. It is a DX10 card, driver updates do not change whether your card is DX11 or 10. You can only run in DX9 or 10 with that card. if you want DX11 then go buy a new card that supports DX11.
until then you will have to run games in either DX9 or 10 depending on what the game supports.

Ah, that clarifies it. I'll be content with DX9 for now, though any suggestions for new card would be welcome.

Power Supply is 850w

I have a very slow adsl connection, so I am not sure if it would be worth it.
