Help me choose

Hello my name is Josh
i will start with my build
Motherboard: Sabretooth 990 fx
CPU: AMD phenom ii x4
HDD: caviar blue 500gb
RAM: Corsair vengence 4gbx2
PSU:500w cit

well anyway i recently built this computer and i choose the asus 7770 hd graphics card and it turned out to be faulty and i got a refund but i was thinking if i had made the right choice or if i could have got a better graphics card for the same price that would be better for gaming i was hoping that someone could tell me if there is a better one on the market that would be more suitable to gamer if so please tell me and if it is compatible with my build
