ill start by saying ive read just about every review at TH, anand and TR for the gtx 600 and radeon 7000 series cards. reading all the 660ti vs 7950 threads it seems that the majority of people suggest getting a 7950 because of the memory and AA. most reviews dont show the 660ti choking when AA is applied. depending on the review and game used the 660ti or 7950 could be faster.
now for my real question. im getting a korean 27 ips monitor. the resolution is 2560x1440 and because the 7950 has more memory and memory bandwidth i figured thats what i would get. i was about ready to figure out what specific model i wanted and then i read this follow up review. after reading that im really unsure if i should get the 7950 over a 660ti. i know the tomshardware best gpu for the money says to get the 7870 for $220. the review for the 7870 says "textures appeared noticeably blurrier". now is that how its competing with a 7950? by lowering the IQ so it can get higher fps in benchmark reviews. that is something i always wondered about. you can give average FPS results all you want but is there a IQ difference between cards/brands?
i know some 7950's are now coming with locked voltages. after reading a bunch of forums im still not sure if there is anyway to tell if the voltage will be locked on a specific model or not.
i have never used a 2560x1440 monitor before. from what ive seen in reviews a 7950/660ti will have trouble with 1440p and AA. what would the difference in IQ be between 2560x1440 with no AA and 1920x1080 with AA?
