Its mainly for media server and maybe just a little bit of gaming. Got the 8800gts for only 15bucks. Just wondering if I am likely to notice any difference in gaming and other tasks as well. My monitor is 15" 1024x768 and I would play games like driver san Francisco, ghost recon future soldier, crysis etc. I was asking this for a buddy and hes insisting that the gt210 should be better cause it has like 3x the video memory. So I leave it to you guys to prove him wrong.

the faster GPU would more than make up for the loss in video memory. Only thing you might see is with games with large textures like Crysis is some lag since the game would be swapping textures in and out of video ram to deal with them. That's really the only thing the 210 would have over the 8800GTS

Considering how low the resolution is, and the fact that the GT210 GPU is junk, the 8800GTS should stomp all over it, no problem. Besides, the 8800 GTS has a much wider memory bandwidth, which is just as important as frame buffer size.

from what I can recall on benchmarks, the 8800GTS is about as good in gaming as a GT250.

Close but not quite, the GTS 250 is actually a 9800GTX which is essentially a 8800 GTX / Ultra with a smaller memory bandwidth (256bit vs 320bit) and either less or more frame buffer (512MB/1GB vs 768MB).

However, it will still cream the GT210 across the board.
