Let me start by saying I am an avid and die-hard Canon afficianado.

Why in the hell would Canon cheap-out on an otherwise, seemingly
fantastic camera (5D) and include a pentamirror (instead of a
pentaprism) viewfinder? I think Canon rushes these products to market,
thereby never getting them quite right. I was ready to mortgage the
kids to buy the new camera. Now, I think I'll wait on its successor,
or for a more compact 1Ds series camera.

I love Canon and will continue to buy their products, very selectively.
I am a happy EOS 10D (along with a myriad of EOS film SLR's) owner,
but even that camera went to store shelves with problems. I waited
several months after the model was introduced - and seemingly refined -
to purchase mine.

Canon is light years ahead of their competition. There's an old axiom
in journalism - get it first, but first get it right. Canon would do
well to heed those words.

Michael

It'll be a pentaprism. I think when they first released 20D specs they
did the same thing and said mirror instead of prism.

Well they might not make to market first, if they had to wait to get it
right ;-P

I'm sure the 5D will be flying off the store selves..... And Canon will
be fixing the problems shortly thereafter. The rest of us will wait
while prices on other cameras drop like a rock :-)

Now, why can't Canon (or someone) came out with some special, lower
cost, new fangled lens and drive down the prices on existing lenses.
Then I /might/ be able to snap up a

for a mere $1000 or so.
