My first time building a machine. I have the following set up and my monitor is powered up, but screen is black besides the initial dell display.

Hard Drive: Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Memory: Patriot Viper 3 DDR3 16GB 2133MHz CL11 Quad Kit

Motherboard: Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 Motherboard

SSD Hard Drive: CRUCIAL M4 128GB 2.5 SATA 6GB/S SOLID-STATE

CPU: AMD FX-8150 X8 3600MHZ 16MB 125W AM3

Case: Apevia X-Trooper Jr. Case, w/ Window-Black

Power Supply: Logisys 575 Watt 256mb Power Supply, PCI Express, Serial ATA

Video Card: Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 256mb

The monitor is a Dell monitor connected via a hdmi to dvi adaptor. CPU led is red but everything else seems fine - fans are all running, Is there something off the top that someone can think of that may be causing this?

More about : system display

If the CPU fan does spin when starting the board, then I suggest taking the board outside the case and reinstalling the CPU. Check the CPU for bent pins.

All fans do spin. It is an AMD CPU so I don't think there are any pins. (By the way, after further review i am using a dvi to VGA adapter, not hdmi to VGA.)

Thanks alexoiu

The CPU led shouldn't be red. That's why I suggested taking the board outside the case (ruling out a short). Did you update the BIOS?

I don't know how to do that without a monitor. Is that possible?

It is, but I don't think that it would solve the problem. The CPU is supported without a BIOS update. The issue is elsewhere.

Got it! The power plug for the cup was not seated properly. Up and running. Thank you for your help!
