Not sure what gfx card to upgrade to.

It's that year end upgrade PC time again and I cant decide on what gfx card to upgrade to. Im currently running the following:

GTS 250 1GB OC'd

AMD Phenom II X3, unlocked to X4 @ 3.2GHz

8GB DDR3 RAM

1.5 TB HDD

450watt PSU

M4a98GTD pro/usb3 mobo

and the rest doesn't matter.

I was looking at the 7770's and the 7850, but the 7850 is a tad expensive. People are telling me to stray away from 650ti's so I'm awfully confused on what would be the best upgrade. If I must buy a new PSU, so be it, but something in the 450 watt range would be nice.

  1. Whats your budget?
  2. Oh, right. I'd like to stay in the ~160 ish range? My monitor is 1600x1200. Forgot to mention it.
  3. if you dont use AA then the 650ti is a decent card and within best withing your budget. The next step up would be the 7850 if you wanted to save up for a little while longer.

Only 162 after rebate, HD 7850 1gb. Much faster in games than GTX 650 ti.

HD 7850 2 gb edition, only 169 after rebate.

HD 7850 is known to be an extremely good overclocker, some even get theirs into stock gtx 680 range.
  5. Okay, If I choose the 7850, how hot does it get? I dont have the greatest air flow in my case and a 70C card could get a bit dicey.

Does this include MSI afterburner type OCing, or a physical mod to a chip or pin?
