Somebody has brand-new 919's for $719. I have 2 704's now, think this
might be a good pick-up for a long-term backup?

Judging by the specs, it looks like a hell of a player! I'd go for it.

I believe it is based on the CLD604 for the LD mechanism. Kurtis might
know for sure.

You are correct about the LD section based on the CLD-D60X series.

You actually would get better players by purchasing separate units and
getting a CLD-D704 for the LD playback. You can get very nice Upscaling DVD
players from $150 to $300. The advantage to the DVL series is that they
save space by having both players in one unit.

Kurtis, I do have 2 CLD-704's now, one I really need to get to you for
repair/tune up. When you hit play it just sits there for a bit and
then ejects the disc. I tried cleaning the rubber ring once with no
success, I should probably try again. Second one works fine.
I just wasnt positve if the 919 was based on the 60x or 70x series. If
the latter, would be nice to get a NEW ld player for $700.
