Hey guys, been having trouble with new pc i built a few weeks ago. I added a second 7870 to it about a week or so after building it. Quickly found out that the budget asrock b75m was 16/4 not 8/8, Spent $177 on new MOBO z77 extreme, Now both cards run at 8/8, Still i find there is less or no difference in the fps im getting in bf3, I still drop down below 50, well below, Sometimes in the 30's, No matter what setting i used, I found drivers that run the cards 70+% usage pretty much all the time and they still dont perform, I hear everywhere that i can run 100-150 fps max and its OP for my 1080p monitor.... So do i go below 60? Ive never been able to hit 60+ all the time. I have tried all drivers with fresh installs, Switched cards, Ran them individually, And my 3dmark score is 14000.... I dont understand. My PSU is only 650w and sometimes my system locks up/sound loops/fans at 100% etc til hard reset. but Sometimes only. Could this be the cause to my fps problems? PLEASE HELP GUYS
MOBO: asrock z77 Extreme4
RAM: 1333 8gb (Unsure of brand)
CPU: i5 3570k (Stock) Was running at 4.2 but locks up with crossfire...
GPU': 2x POWERCOLOR HD 7870 Ghz Edition (Stock)
HDD: 500gb Sata
Shitty case, No waterblock or casefans, But cards have never reached above 75 degree's. Im VERY CONFUSED. It has been weeks of me reading trying to fix before it came to me to make a thread here, Even though all my problems are always solved via toms. Im running Crossfire now with 12.10 CCC and anytime looking at the busy area's of any map my fps will dissapate from 100+ to under 60.... WHICH I CAN NOTICE... if i look up i get 180fps. 40-180 seems to unscaled. And everyone seems to think i should be running with 60fps min.....
Anyways thanks for any help you guys can come up with. Just finished all windows updates without any help.
Also if i run 1 card O/C with new BETA drivers my performance increases dramatically, Rarely see less then 60fps with 2xmsaa
Guys i think i figured it out. After all this time i ripped my second card out today, installed beta drivers. So i could play with nice fps. Clocked the card up 100mhz, and BLUE SCREEN. Straight away... So i make my Cpu and Gpu stock clocks. Run bf3... Blue Screen within first 2 minutes.... I put my other card in, Overclock 100mhz, Run bf3 on ultra. 2+hours no blue Screen !!!. The second card i bought seems to be faulty. But could this be the cause of my low Performance? or just my system instability whilst running crossfire? I wanna know because if i was experience the performance of 2x 7870's id rather get credit on my card and add some money to get a 7950. Let me know guys !
So even though ive had performance issues with the CrossFire 7870's you think i should rma and get another? ALOT of people are going this $700 dual gpu option and getting rediculous performance. I know my rig can handle it. I might just get a non faulty card and see if my performance increases . Thanks guys ill post back with my xfire 7870's when i get my new one
ok guys ive replaced my faulty 7870. Now my first fear's are confirmed. Im getting about the exactly the same performance as i was. Except now im stable. Im told crossfire 7870's is overkill for 1080p but now once again i cant seem to play at 60+ at ALL TIME. I can drop below 50 sometimes.... and thats nowhere near the 120~150 fps people say ill get on my monitor.... my cards only run at 50-60% each when in busy area's (50-65fps) and they run 75+% when looking and secluded area's,(100+fps). Can somene please confirm if this is normal results for everything on ultra? The cards are working together beautifuly and everything reads right in gpu-z. ULPS is OFF. And they scale very evenly. Just in Golf i can get under 50fps really easy in a helicopter... which is MY veihcle... hehe. Also the busyer the map gets and the more frames i lose the more my usage drops.... shouldnt the cards be asking for more power as the game needs it? not dropping and as a result dropping my frames? Anyways Would love some help. Would love to know whats the MIN fps i should expect in ANY veihcle in the WORST part of GOLF or any HUNGRY MAP. Just so i have some re assurance. !!! Thanks guys !!!!!!!
No this is definitely off. GPU Usage should be at near 90% all the time during gaming unless you have V-Sync. I think its your PSU, what brand is it? You might be exceeding its limits, especially if its a cruddy brand with crappy AMPS on the 12V rail.
Its some shitty 650w. Could it really be that? its more than enough power....... Also i just had it crash with sound loop. This could also mean its my psu? I reinstalled drivers and swapped pci slots and swapped the xfire dongle thingy. Now running abit better i think. Rare drops below 60 in the jet on wake island. But in the chopper its alot more often, And still no where near the performance i wanted when i spent $700 on this gpu setup. Any ways to make sure its my psu?
If its shitty, it most likely is the issue, and also would answer your 60% usage question. If its a good 650W, you're fine. Remember that wattage is not important, its the amperage on the 12V rail. See my old 650W only had 30 amps on the 12V rail. Thats terrible! That means it can only output like 360W of power out of the 12V (12 x 30 = 360). So that is most likely your issue.
