How do I set up a password on a Netgear router so others cannot share my network?

Hard wire your computer to the router. Open an internet browser and input the router's IP address (192.168.0.1) in the address bar. It will ask you for the admin user name and password to log into the router. If you have never set this up before and this is a brand new router the default will be something like username: admin, password: password. Google your model number for the default log in information. Once your logged into the router you can set up your wireless encryption and set a password.

Good luck.

Whilst 192.168.0.1 is a popular default gateway, it is not the only one. Here's a link to the Sticky Post on this issue. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/foru [...] s-security

------------------------------ Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like 127.0.0.1

yeah....netgear typically uses that ip address though. google your model and ip address and your bound to find it pretty darn quickly.
