How do I set up a password on a Netgear router so others cannot share my network?

Hard wire your computer to the router. Open an internet browser and input the router's IP address ( in the address bar. It will ask you for the admin user name and password to log into the router. If you have never set this up before and this is a brand new router the default will be something like username: admin, password: password. Google your model number for the default log in information. Once your logged into the router you can set up your wireless encryption and set a password.

Good luck.

Whilst is a popular default gateway, it is not the only one. Here's a link to the Sticky Post on this issue.

yeah....netgear typically uses that ip address though. google your model and ip address and your bound to find it pretty darn quickly.
