I just upgraded to a HP Pavilion with windows XP. I loaded my Links LS2000
program, and the game satrts fine. After the first shot I get a pink sky and
not aim pointer. If I rotate the player, I get an error message - "Links
LS2000: LinksLS2K.EXE Application error". The message reads "The instruction
at "0x75a2f5c referenced memory at "0x123a898". The memory could not be read"

Wen i look at the system Info window in the game, it lists hard Drive Space
0MB/sec, Memory Speed 0MB/sec, Video Speed 0MB. The System inofr also lists
the operating system as Window98.

Is there any way I can correct this so the game will run correctly. i have
also installed the 1.21 patch, which had no effect on this problem.

This unit uses a integrated VIA/S3G Unichrome IGP adapter with 65mb. Should
I install my old Avidia 16mb graphic accelerator in the new machine?

Steve

Hi,

Try compatibility mode first (will post instruction below) and if
that doesn't work, try updating your System and Video drivers.
http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/drivers.html

To install a program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode, hold
down SHIFT as you insert the game CD, use My Computer to browse
to the setup program, and then skip down to step 1 in the list below:

To run an installed program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode,
first right click the program and "Send To..." / Desktop (create shortcut).

1.. Right click on the shortcut to the program.
2.. Click on Properties.
3.. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4.. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
a.. Windows 95
b.. Windows 98
c.. Windows NT 4
d.. Windows 2000
5.. Under Display settings, check mark the mode that you think that is best:
a.. Run in 256 colors.
b.. Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
c.. Disable visual themes.

Click on Apply.Click on Ok.Double click on the program.

Of course, let's not forget to check for any patches or updates for that game.
A good place to find them is: www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a

If you'd like to learn more information about compatibility mode, you can click the
link in the Compatibility tab that reads "Learn more about program compatibility",
or watch this Application Compatibility Power Point Presentation:

That did it Jim. Thank you very much.

Funny thing - I was able to play the game in the zone even though I could
not play off line.

Thank you very much for including as much detail about the
problem as you did. It made it easier to suggest that solution. :-)

Cheers,
Jimmy.
