As it says in the post title, I have an MSI N450 GTS that is the MD1GD3 model. I picked it up on tigerdirect for 35$.. my old GPU burnt, didn't OC it.. just had a hard 4 years lolz.
I would like to overclock or... welll... do something with this card to boost it. I am not afraid of ruining this card.. but... Im not saying that Ill just go for something that makes no sense and burn this one out too.
I started doing some stress tests in Kombustor, on stock clocks, to see how the card handles the test before I do anything to it. But during the COMBINED test (i was doing a P-score test) part I noticed vertical lines through screen which I guess are artifacts? or was that just part of the test? (would not assume so)
I've read about doing a BIOS flash with incresement of voltage to core to get better OC results, but cannot find any bios file for my card. Is this worth doing?
I would like this card to handle games better, for a couple of months, Im planning on getting a new computer but right now this is what I have.
There is one more thing, this is about my old GPU. I have an ASUS 2900XT radeon. One day when I started my computer, the windows welcome screen would just freeze up, the picture would have horizontal lines through it, as well as some multicolored dots all over the screen, that is > GPU DEAD?
But when I went into safe mode, it worked, did not crash although when my computer was starting up, you could see the multicolored dots everywhere. I opened up the card just to see (took cover off and heat sink) Looks like thermal grease just boiled over and there was not much at all between the GPU and heat sink. Do I replace thermal paste and try troubleshooting card? or it's definitely finished? (when I installed the MSI card, I had no freezing/colored dots on screen)
Computer in question:
