When my brand new D20 is mounted as a drive .CR2 files don't show up
in the list of files on the CF card. Digital Photo Professional does
see these CR2s but can't open/preview them. The only way to get to
the files are through the CF card reader. This is ok but I am
wondering if anything is wrong with my new D20...
Did anyone have a problem like this? And/or any idea what it is all
about and is it fixable?

I do have ZoomBrowser EX 5.5 installed (from my PowerShot S70) but it
keeps showing the message saying that the camera is busy and tells to
turn off the LCD even when it is off.
Maybe it is not a such big of a deal if you had the same problem. Of
course this is assuming that was the only problem with the camera that
you've noticed. Or should I be on a lookout for something else?

Well, not sure about that. Installing ZoomBrowser worked for me. [I hadn't
thought it would be needed as it wasn't even included in the sftware package
with my 20D.]
Its probably a software issue. I assume the camera can successfully be seen
when you shoot JPG. Possible reinstall ZoomBrowser.
Or just use the card reader.
[I might be curious too since the camera was a fairninvestment and you'd
like to be sure its perfect.]

What you describe is completely "by design". Best solution is to simply get
a cheap/nasty card reader - "zoom browser" is something I looked at some
years ago - not sure if they've improved it much over the years, but 5 years
ago it was pretty aweful - no way I'd let it near any of my computers.

Actually it does seem that this IS by design. Here is a quote from
"Canon Camera WIA Driver v5.4" readme:
"Cautions on Windows XP
--------------------------------------------------------------
1. General cautions
--------------------------------------------------------------
....
(2) RAW images in the camera will not be saved in a computer with
WIA-TWAIN driver..."

It didn't help. But I am not going to obsess about it - I'll see how
it goes and if there are more problems then I'll exchange it. I do
love the camera - more then my D70 that I switched from
Thank you for the shared experience and your help.

Set the "commuication" parameter in the camera to "PC Connection"
rather than "Print/PTP". It won't pump RAW files out to a printer.

It doesn't seem to be the sourse of the problem as it was/is set to
"Normal" - I assume this is what you are referring to as "PC
Connection" as the other option is "PTP". Just to clarify - the card
reader I am using is a separate unit and the printer is turned off.
