I recently rebuilt with an Intel dp43bf motherboard and reinstalled windows XP sp3. I also bought two SSDs so i would have a clone drive to work with in case of problems with the primary boot drive. After a number of disasters that take two days to recover from, I decided it would be a whole lot smarter to simply have a bootable copy of my harddrive on hand for 60.00. The drive cloned fine. I added the boot material and both drives will boot when selected. The problem is this: Regardless of the settings in the bios, the PC will not auto select a drive and boot up. If I don't hit F10 and select a drive, it simply gives me the intel splash screen, and then the dreaded black screen with prompt flashing at the top. I've got the hard drives listed as the first item in the boot selection section of the bios, and the proper hard drive is listed first in the list of hard drives.
This being my first SSD setup, the only peculiarity I note in the bios is that there is no master or slave designated. I assumed this was a function of the SSDs or the SATA configuration which is also a first for me? (in case it isn't obvious, I don't jump on the bandwagon for every new money making fad the PC makers invent for themselves - if it ain't broke, don't fix it...) At any rate, Intel has just discontinued support for the board, so here I am looking for answers.
Is it necessary to have a manual boot selection anytime there are two 'boot capable' drives in the sata chain?
