I'm confused about s-video on laserdisc players. I gathered from some
articles that s-video is only necessary if you don't have a comb filter
in the television. My TV is a newish sony with, IIRC, a digital comb
filter. Should I buy a player without s-video and hook it up with
composite or should I get a player with s-video and use that to connect
to teh television? How will I get the best image?
Thank You,

All TV's have comb filter. Newer TV's such as HDTV's usually have 3D
comb filters, and even many analog sets have 3 line digital filters.
Unless you have one of the higher end laserdisc players, you are
usually better off using composite out of the LD player. Using
composite out forces the use of the comb filter in the TV.

Most of the better LD players have S-video outputs, but I would still
use the composite outs unless you get one of the high end ld players.

YOu buy the best LD player your budget can afford. You then try hooking up
the player both ways and see which you prefer. It *USUALLY* means that one
comb filter is better than the other.
