I found this forum thread very interesting in light of people asking
about using other manufacture's lenses on their cameras.

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/275750

Guy Mancuso's list.

Leica 15mm 2.8 is the best better than the Leica 3.4 and Zeiss 3.4

18mm goes to Zuiko and Zeiss

19mm Leica

21mm Zeiss, Oly

24 goes to Canon the 1.4

28 Leica, Zeiss and Oly

35mm this one is tough Leica there are 3 that are all excellent, zeiss
has the 35 mm and canon has the best wide they make the 1.4

50mm Leica summricon F2 , Zeiss 1.7 and the rest follow in my opinion

85mm Zeiss 1.2 and Canon 1.2

90 Leica apo

100 zeiss planar,

135 Zeiss and canon tough call here

180 No question the Leica F2 and 2.8

200 canon 1.8 and zeiss 200 F2

300 and above all are canon except slip in the Leica 280 in there

Best teleconverter Leica 1.4 and 2 Apo

Best Macro Leica 100 macro APO, Oly 90

Best PC lens Zeiss 35 and Leica 28 and the Oly 24mm The Z is the best

Just a idea and I may have missed one or 2 but anything here on this
list should be excellent

Best Zooms Leica 21-35, 28-90 and the Zeiss 35-70 for the mid range
but the all time best is the Leica 35-70 2.8 only 200 made.

Where does one purchase a Zeiss or Leica lens? Are they still in
production?

Some are and others you look for on the used market.

See you local Leica dealer.

and learn where to find them via google.

Expect to pay over 2K for some of the Zeiss glass.

This is relevant to the real world in just what way?
Its like saying my Mercedes E would be perfect if only it had the intake
manifold of a Lexus 450.
I don't have a Mercedes. I used to have a Lexus, though.
It is not certain that these wide angle primes would work adequately on
digital sensors as the angle at which the sensors optimally accept light may
not mesh with the optical characteristics of the lenses.
There is at least one easy, if expensive way, to test at least Leica M mount
lenses in the digital world.
It would be interesting if someone reliable, as opposed to the usual stuff
seen on the web and these newsgroups, evaluated the classic Leica M
rangefinder lenses on the new Epson digital rangefinder with the Leica M
mount.
In fact, that would be so interesting, and possible revealing, that this
survey will never likely appear in any of the major camera magazines either.
Not that any of them are bastions of objective reliability either.
Now, if someone wants to donate the Epson digital rangefinder camera to me I
will post my results using my Leica M mount lenses . . .

Try a Zeiss 21 on a 1DsII.

Some of us have Zeiss and Lecia glass and want to put the best lenses
on our cameras. It's very relevant if you real world includes making
the best possible images we can.

After reading the original thread the lens choices are hardly
surprising since it is the equipment that he owns.

That's what I was thinking. I always have read the 35-80 F2.8 zuiko zoom was
one of the best of that range and he didn't include it?
