So i got a free computer the other day, A Compaq presario SR1460AN, the thing is pretty old. Here are a full list of Specs
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport...

For an old pre-built system it actually has nice stuff in it surprisingly, SATA, MSI motherboard etc. Anyway to the point, it comes with a "BestTec 300W power supply. Does anyone have any experience with these? I take it they are going to be pretty crap but i was wondering if i could replace it with a GT220 I have laying around.

I don't know to much about rails etc but here are the details
OUTPUT +12v - / 19A. -12v = /0.8A
300W MAX +5V - / 30A. - +5VSB
3.3V = / 28A

Is what the label reads.

Best Tec is bottom line stuff, it says 300w but it actually equals out to 228, I can't think off hand how much power a gt 220 pulls but I think you should make it.

thanks for the fast reply, I thought as much from a pre-built system. I'll install it and see what happens.
