How can I get my computer fit to play GTA IV (and V soon!)

Hello,

I bought GTA V for my pc but it doesn't work

I built the computer myself about 18 months ago, so the specs are alright. I bought it all from new, except the graphics card I took from my old PC (so maybe that's it???)

AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 630 Processor, 2800 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

4GB Ram DDR 3 but I could improve this as I have 2 more slots, is it worth upgrading it?

My motherboard is
MSI 770-C45 AMD 770( Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard

However my graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 6200 LE

If I were to improve the graphics card, would it work fine for me? Also I only use 32 bit so would it be better to use 64 bit would it be faster?

Could anybody recommend a graphics card suitable in the UK please? Around £40 no more preferably. I have a £20 voucher for PC world/currys so I could go up to around £60 if it's worth it there. Or if you see one on amazon that is a bonus

Thanks Danny

More about computer play soon
  1. Get better GPU and 64 bit OS.

But GTA V isn't yet released for PC. Not even Preorder.
You can Preorder for Xbox and PS3.
  2. £60 is not going to get you great performance in GTAiv and deffo not V.

    Ebay is your best bet!
  3. What's a GPU

    Sorry I haven't got a clue

Would there be any graphics card suitable at all that I could ebay then? Let's go up to £70ish if I need to
  4. Coupled with your rather weak CPU, even at that budget you wont find anything thatll run GTA V even a little bit.
  5. Weak CPU it cost me a bomb!!

In all serious though, I don't need it to be uber high HD quality or anything, I just want something that works
  6. Would I also need a new power thing? I think the one I have is out of an old PC
  7. I used to have the 630 and a gts250 and it ran GtaIV. Obviously CPU limited but that's more thanks to the horrible coding than anything. Doubt you'll be able to find anything on currys since like bestbuy here in the USA retail will charge you out the ass. Minimum I would look at wuold be the 6670 but yikes 70 pounds on their website lol.

There are a some 5770, 450s and 6770 for 50 quid on ebay, all of which are faster than the 6670 so those might be worth looking into if you can win the auction.

Hey thanks for your good response

Would a GeForce 8600GT be a good graphics card?
  9. first let me tell u wat u did wrong.
u already bought (or built) an overpriced and kind of weird build in 2011.
thats the worst mistake~~ u should've come here 18 months ago for advice!!
then u come and say "suggest me a graphics card for my build for 50bucks and it should play GTA V" ????
that game isn't even out yet!!!
so considering u hav GTA4 that game is a horrible pc port, and requires a really good pc to run, even though the game is not THAT impressive technically.
so if u buy a new card, for 70ish u wont be able to get a good gaming experience.
unless u get used GPU(graphics card)
    7850- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-ATI-HD-7850-High-Power-Graphics-Card-1Gb-GDDR5-HDMI-DVI-Display-Port-/121038901334?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item1c2e7b1056

the cards are listed in performance order with 7850 the best and 6750 the worst among them.
if u want to get the 7850 or almost any other card u will hav to get a new PSU(power supply) as well.
but if dont want to spend money on a new PSU
hd 7750 is the best card out there. it wont be the best in ultra settings in HD but for a gamer like u this will do

and also a GTA V for PC is not even confirmed yet!!
so if u want to be absolutely sure, u r just better of getting an xbox
u dont have to worry about anything and GTA IV and GTA V will definitely run in it.

its not something i usually suggest but it mught be best for U

No the 8600gt is too low. 8800, 9800,250, 450 are all ok 6670,5770,6770, 5750,6750 etc. 7750 if you can find it cheap.

Actually the 6670 is 50 pounds new on amazon.co.uk
  11. I would suggest a) an Athlon II X4 chip and 2) a more modern GPU

the trick is, you'll need to spend about £60 on each one:

    here's a CPU:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003M7BLOW/?tag=pcp0f-21

the Athlon II X4 will drop right in as a replacement for your X2

here is a GPU that will be much better than the 6200 you have for £53. I picked DDR5 model for the faster memory.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-asus-hd-6670-4000mhz-gddr5-gpu-810mhz-480-stream-processors-displayport-dvi-i-hdmi

the gpu should manage the game at 1600x900 or less.

but you will need BOTH items
  12. That's the same GPU I was looking at on amazon.co.uk :D

    I already have X4 though

okay thanks for the graphics card!

I built it on the cheap! There's nothing wrong with the processor or the motherboard, or the ram. It's just the graphics card really!

Sorry, I meant GTA IV! See the title, I'm not that much of a 'noob'

Cheers anyway, I will look at the 7750. I'm happy to buy used
